The Guildford Heat continued their good form, whilst closing the gap on the league-leading Newcastle Eagles, as they beat the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets 111-91 at The Spectrum; the win was their third consecutive in the league and leaves them just two points behind Newcastle, their opponents in next month's BBL Trophy Final.
Danny Gilbert led the way with 31 points, whilst James Jones had most of his 22 points from beyond the arc. Jayson Obazuaye and Matt Otten had 27 each for the Jets.
In a tight first half, it was the visiting Jets that had the upper hand early on as Matt Otten hit 7 points in a 10-3 run that gave them an early lead. The home side responded with an 11-2 burst of their own to lead 18-12, only for the Jets to finish the first ten minutes with a further 9-4 run for a 22-23 edge.
An early Tony Dorsey triple gave the Heat a second quarter lead, only for the visitors to respond with a 10-1 surge to go up by 26-33. The Heat recovered as Ajou Deng leveled the scores at 38 before Dan Wardrope gave the Heat their lead back, as a 12-3 finish helped them to a 44-41 half-time advantage.
The Heat extended that lead behind marksman James Jones in the third stanza as he sank five three-pointers and a late 14-3 push extended the gap to 73-65.
The visitors tried to get back into the game in the final quarter as they opened with the first 6 points to trail by just two. But a further three from Jones contributed to a 12-1 run, that was soon followed by 13 unanswered points, including a pair of triples from Gilbert and 5 from Harrison, as the Heat sealed it at 103-80. There was still time for Gilbert to hit another pair of three-pointers as the Heat beat the Jets for the second time this season.
