Newcastle Eagles moved themselves back to the top of the BBL Championship table thanks to a 109-86 victory over Team Birmingham Panthers at the Metro Radio Arena on Friday evening.

The Eagles led from tip to buzzer, and after a close opening period, the Eagles broke the game open with a 22-4 tear in the second period to take the score out to 50-26.

The second half saw another 7-0 run for the home side as they increased their lead to twenty points at 58-38. The home side enjoyed their biggest lead of the game midway through the third quarter off the back of a 10-0 burst to lead by thirty at 68-38.

The Panthers could not get themselves back into the game, despite closing the deficit in the final period, the Eagles ran out the comfortable winners.

Charles Smith led all scorers in the game with 24 points, but also pulled down 17 rebounds, and gave up 10 assists on his way to a triple-double. Daniel Sandell led the Panthers scoring with 20 points.
